Merida

Our institute is located in the north east of the beautiful colonial city of Merida named by UNESCO "World Heritage Site" and also the first 'Cultural Capital' in Latin America; besides it was mentioned as the fifth best city of the world to live by Travel and Leisure magazine. Merida is only 1 hr from "Chichen Itza" one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.

Hospitals, banks, travel agencies, theaters are an important part of the city. Merida is known for being a pretty, safe city and lately it has also become an excellent place to invest in real state properties. You can walk late at night around being sure there is nothing to be afraid of. Night life, clubs and restaurants are also popular for people of all ages. Most of them are in the main avenue called Paseo Montejo and a few are downtown.
If you like to watch or dance salsa music Merida is also the right place, you must go to one of the several salsa dancing clubs or even better take some classes!

Merida city hall is also well known for organizing a variety of free cultural activities every day of the week. On Mondays you can see traditional Mayan dancing, Tuesdays you can see senior citizens romantically dancing at Santiago's park with their husbands and wives, Wednesdays there are movies or plays in the theaters, Thursdays traditional Mayan dancing, poetry and serenade with guitars takes place at Santa Lucia's park, Fridays there are vendors and music in downtown Merida streets, don't forget to see Mexican Folklore dancing at the University of Yucatan central patio, Saturdays you can see a Traditional Mexican Night with Mexican snacks and music in the famous Paseo Montejo avenue, and finally on Sundays visit downtown Merida for the Merida Sunday party where you can see cultural activities, vendors, handcrafts, embroidery, silver jewelry and much more.

Student Testimonials

Lois Post

"Don Jose is a very patient, kind and helpful teacher! If you've studied a second language before, you'll know how important that is! I arrived at Ecora with a mix of Spanish that includes beginner mistakes and some rather advanced usage, and a lack of patience for "books."...
